What You Need to Become a Mortgage Associate in New Brunswick

The New Brunswick Mortgage Associate Course is the approved New Brunswick-specific education course for Mortgage Associate licensing under the Mortgage Brokers Act. Completing the course and successfully passing the required examination satisfies the education component of the licensing process.

Complete the New Brunswick Mortgage Associate Course

Complete all required online course modules before booking your final examination.

Pass the Final Examination

The passing grade for the final examination is 60%. The examination must be successfully completed before you can proceed with the licensing process.

Complete the Course Within the Required Timeframe

Students must complete the online course modules and final examination within 6 months of the original registration date. Course extensions may be purchased if required.

Meet New Brunswick Licensing Requirements

In addition to completing the approved education program, applicants must meet the licensing requirements established by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission of New Brunswick (FCNB), including:

  • Be 19 years of age or older.
  • Be a resident of Canada.
  • Be authorized by a mortgage brokerage to deal in mortgages.
  • Work for only one mortgage brokerage.
  • Successfully complete the approved education program for associates.
  • Provide any other supporting information required in relation to the applicant’s suitability.
  • Have a valid email address.
  • Provide a completed criminal record check issued within the previous six months by the RCMP or a municipal or provincial police force.

Once you have successfully completed the course and examination and joined a mortgage brokerage, your brokerage submits your licensing application to FCNB.

The New Brunswick Mortgage Broker Education Program is designed around the FCNB-mandated Qualifying Standards for Mortgage Brokers and focuses on the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to supervise mortgage associates and manage a compliant mortgage brokerage.

The program has a different focus than the Mortgage Associate Course.
