What You Need to Become a Mortgage Associate in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Mortgage Associate Course is the approved entry-level education program for individuals who want to become licensed as Mortgage Associates in Saskatchewan. Mortgage Associate licensing is administered by the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA).

Complete the Saskatchewan Mortgage Associate Course

Successfully complete the approved online course before booking your final examination. The course covers Saskatchewan-specific regulations, legislation and business practices along with the foundational mortgage knowledge required to enter the industry.

Use a Financial Calculator

A financial calculator is required for the course. Instruction is provided using the Hewlett Packard 10bII or 10bII+ and Texas Instruments BAII+ or BAII+ Professional models.

Pass the Final Examination

The passing grade for the final examination is 60%. The examination can be completed online with a remote proctor or in person at an approved testing centre. Online examinations cost $75 and the in-person examination fee is $100.

Complete the Course Within the Required Timeframe

Students must complete the online course and final examination within 6 months of their original registration date. Course extensions may be purchased if required.

Meet Saskatchewan Licensing Requirements

In addition to successfully completing the approved education and examination, applicants for a Saskatchewan Mortgage Associate licence must meet the requirements established by FCAA.

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a resident of Canada.
  • Be authorized by a mortgage brokerage to deal in mortgages.
  • Work for only one mortgage brokerage.
  • Have a valid email address and provide the required contact information.
  • Meet the approved Mortgage Associate education requirements.
  • Be found suitable for licensing.
  • Provide the required supporting information, including a criminal record check dated within 3 months of the application submission date.

Apply Through a Mortgage Brokerage

Once you have met the applicable requirements, a licensed mortgage brokerage must initiate your application through FCAA’s Registration and Licensing System (RLS). You cannot submit a Mortgage Associate licensing application until a brokerage has invited you to apply.

What You Need to Become a Mortgage Broker in Saskatchewan

Mortgage broker licensing in Saskatchewan is administered by the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority (FCAA). Mortgage brokers broker mortgages on behalf of a licensed mortgage brokerage and have the education and experience required to supervise mortgage associates.
