Get Licensed in Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Associate Mortgage Broker Course is required by SNS to become a licensed associate mortgage broker mortgage professional in Nova Scotia. This is the only approved course for licensing as an associate mortgage broker by SNS (unless you qualify for an exemption, see Nova Scotia's complete licensing requirements for details). 

Associate Mortgage Broker Course

The Nova Scotia Associate Mortgage Broker Course contains province specific information including regulations, legislation, and business practices. It covers all the key topics, skills, and knowledge necessary for you to successfully enter the industry as an associate mortgage Broker. This course was developed with the assistance of education experts and through extensive industry consultation.

The Nova Scotia Associate Mortgage Broker Course is roughly 40 hours online with a final examination. Exam rewrites are available for those students who require it. Once you've passed the final exam, you will be eligible to join a mortgage brokerage. Your brokerage will be the one to submit your licensing application to provincial regulators.

Below is a list of the eligibility requirements for licensing:

  • Be 19 years of age or older.
  • Be a resident of Canada.
  • Provide the results of a criminal record check.
  • Provide confirmation to the principal broker that you have read and understand the Mortgage Regulation Act and regulations and agree to follow all requirements
  • Within 2 years preceding application, successfully complete the educational program and provide proof satisfactory to the Registrar see Nova Scotia's complete licensing requirements for details. 
  • Be authorized by a mortgage brokerage to deal in mortgages.

The Nova Scotia Mortgage Broker Education Program is designed in line with SNS requirements. The program was developed with the assistance of education experts and through extensive industry consultation, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with actual practice.

The Nova Scotia Mortgage Broker Education Program places its emphasis on developing the competencies and expertise necessary to effectively oversee associate mortgage brokers and ensure full compliance with relevant regulations within the brokerage. Upon successfully finishing this program, you will be equipped to proficiently manage and establish your own brokerage venture!

Below is a list of the eligibility requirements for licensing:
  • Be 19 years of age or older.
  • Be a resident of Canada.
  • Provide the results of a criminal record check. 
  • Provide confirmation to the principal broker that you have read and understand the Mortgage Regulation Act and regulations and agree to follow all requirements
  • You have held an associate mortgage broker licence for at least 12 of the 24 months immediately before applying, unless you’re exempt (see Nova Scotia’s complete licensing requirements for details)
  • Within 2 years preceding application, successfully complete the educational program and provide proof satisfactory to the Registrar, unless you’re exempt (see Nova Scotia’s complete licensing requirements for details)
  • Complete the Regulatory Information Program
  • Be authorized by a licensed mortgage brokerage to deal in mortgages.
