Stop Housing Fraud

Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) is calling on the federal government to move quickly to deliver a CRA-enabled income verification tool to combat mortgage fraud in Budget 2025.

MPC commends the government for recognizing the importance of this tool and committing to action in the 2024 Budget and the Fall Economic Statement.

This marked progress on a key Budget 2024 commitment to address mortgage fraud and to consult on the importance of a CRA-enabled solution.

However, despite the pledge in the Fall Economic Statement to begin implementation in early 2025, progress has stalled. Canadians deserve a secure and fair housing market. An income verification tool is a practical, low-cost solution that fights fraud, protects honest buyers, and supports housing affordability.

We urge the government to set a clear timeline and pathway in Budget 2025 to ensure this tool is delivered without further delay by building on the progress already made, and showing Canadians that housing fairness is a priority.
