Get Up to Speed on Ontario’s Mortgage Rules

The Mortgage Licensing Equivalency Course is designed for mortgage professionals who are already licensed outside Ontario and need to complete Ontario-specific education requirements before applying for a mortgage agent or broker licence in the province.

The course focuses on the legal and regulatory framework that applies to mortgage brokering in Ontario, including requirements under the Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act, 2006, its regulations and applicable FSRA guidance.

This course is intended for mortgage professionals applying through Ontario’s licensing equivalency pathway. Completing the Mortgage Licensing Equivalency Course does not by itself guarantee eligibility for an Ontario mortgage agent or broker licence.

Applicants must also meet the applicable licensing, experience, education and suitability requirements established by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA).

The course is an education requirement for out-of-province licensed applicants applying for a mortgage agent or broker licence in Ontario. It focuses on Ontario-specific requirements under the Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act, 2006 (MBLAA), its regulations and FSRA guidance and rules.

The online course takes approximately 2 hours to complete and is followed by a 30-minute final exam consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions.

The passing grade for the final exam is 70%.

You have unlimited attempts at the final exam. There is no additional fee to rewrite it.

You must complete all online course modules before attempting the final exam. Once the modules are complete, the BOOK EXAM button will become available on your My Activities page.

Yes. The final exam is included in the course fee.

Your online course modules are available immediately after registration. You have 6 months from your original registration date to complete the online modules and final exam. Course extensions may be purchased if required.

No. Course registrations cannot normally be placed on hold or transferred to another person. Exceptions may be considered when a request is submitted to the Education Department for review.
