Mortgage rates are expected to climb further in 2027 as rising bond yields and additional Bank of Canada tightening weigh on housing affordability, according to Mortgage Professionals Canada's latest Housing and Mortgage Market Review, prepared by Oxford Economics.
The October report forecasts five-year fixed mortgage rates reaching 5.9% by the third quarter of 2027, while national home prices are expected to rise just 0.3% next year.
Housing starts are projected to decline to 223,000 in 2027, while mortgage credit growth slows to 2.9%. The report also examines regional housing market trends, economic conditions and the outlook for mortgage lending across Canada.
