Hill Days: Strengthening Our Voice in Ottawa

On October 21, MPC members from across the county met with government and opposition MPs, Senators, and senior department officials on Parliament Hill as part of our 2025 Lobby Day. Our delegation engaged directly with senior representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Office of the Minister of Finance, Minister of Housing, the Secretary of State to the CRA, and the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition, among others.

At each meeting, we reinforced the essential role of mortgage professionals in supporting Canadians through housing affordability challenges and driving consumer protection.

Our discussions focused on four core federal advocacy priorities:

  1. Combat mortgage fraud – deliver a secure, CRA-enabled digital income verification tool
  2. Establish a permanent national housing roundtable with industry, civil society, and all orders of government
  3. Extend 30-year insured amortization to include existing homes and all buyer classes
  4. Modernize the federal GST rebate for all buyers

We will continue building momentum from these conversations into 2026, ensuring mortgage professionals remain a trusted and influential voice at the table.
