Recap: Meetings with Ontario MPPs

by Mortgage Professionals Canada | Jun 07, 2021
MPC Ontario Chapter members volunteers met with MPPs to discuss the state of local mortgage and real estate markets and more.

MPC’s first round of meetings with Ontario MPPs took place last week. Valuable insights were gained through these conversations with politicians from across the province, and from four of Ontario’s major political parties.

The timing of these discussions is important, as two main events will drive the next few months of policymaking in Ontario: The reopening of the economy from the challenges of COVID, and an Ontario election which must be held on or before June 2, 2022.

Similar to the meetings Team MPC held with federal Members of Parliament in February and March, these were virtual meetings, which allowed for excellent wide ranging discussions. Elected officials and MPC discussed how the mortgage brokering community is helping existing and aspiring homeowners through COVID, an update on the state of local mortgage and real estate markets, and the effects on federal and provincial policies on housing affordability, especially on those first-time home buyers who are essential to any prolonged and sustained post-COVID economic and social recovery.

We appreciate that so many MPC Ontario Chapter members volunteered to help; in most cases, member representatives were residents of the ridings of the MPPs they met with, and provided valuable local insights. We thank all who graciously volunteered their time and expertise for these meetings, and will call on members again for the next series of meetings in the coming months.
